Despite being a supposed Michigan geography expert, I somehow didn’t even know the island town of Grosse Ile existed until I got the e-mail from @cottagesandbungalows editor, Kelly McMaster, to photograph Josh and Vanessa of @thegratzlife’s 1926 Tudor there for the April/May 2025 issue of Cottages and Bungalows! Their Shiba Inu named Kona is probably my favorite dog I’ve ever met at a photo shoot, so I worked him in as many shots as I could. I spent an inordinate amount of time in the dining room since it was my favorite space, followed closely by their sunroom which has the first indoor garden I’ve ever seen in a home! Written by @victoriavanvlear, the home’s feature spans 18 pages throughout the magazine!
A Heritage Hill classic from 1892, the Stone Chateau, and its new owners, Ron and Jeanne DeWaard with dog, Stubby, that I photographed for Grand Rapids Magazine. The previous residents were Grand Rapids mayor, John Logie, and wife, Susan, who bought the home in 1969 after it sat vacant for years and before the neighborhood was protected as a historic district. At one point, the home was at risk of demolition to make room for a medical building, but John helped place the neighborhood on the National Register of Historic Places to prevent urban renewal from erasing the area’s historic homes!
A multi-room shoot I did with Sara (@maatmans) of @kristinekayinteriors featuring a nursery with a ceiling mural by @chelseamichalart, a playroom with hot air balloon lights, and a few adjoining bathrooms with vanity construction by @kentstevensconstruction!
A profile on Rick Santamaria, pianist and owner of Windsor Cottage on Cherry Street in GR’s East Hills neighborhood, in the current issue of Grand Rapids Magazine!
Scenes from Northwestern University’s Wieboldt House—the president’s residence—that I photographed with Jacqueline of Garrett Mitchell Interiors!
Inside the new DoubleTree by Hilton Battle Creek that I photographed with 6PM Hospitality Partners LLC, including the 20,000-square-foot atrium space that connects the hotel to Kellogg Arena! Previously the McCamly Plaza Hotel which closed in 2019, Battle Creek Unlimited along with several community partners (including Michigan Economic Development Corporation, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, City of Battle Creek, MI Government, Calhoun County Government, Bronson Battle Creek Hospital Community Partners, Consumers Energy Foundation, Battle Creek Visitors, and Michael Miller Memorial Foundation) took charge to transform the declining building into Battle Creek’s new centerpiece!
A couple Naperville, IL kitchens I photographed with interior designer, Stephanie Nichols, of @saylainteriors!
